LISTEN-ACT-CHANGE uses theater exercises, creative writing, music, and dance to explore healthy relationships, establish communication skills, and nurture personal growth.
The Advot Project was founded on the premise that relationships are key to success and communication is vital for relationships to thrive. We believe that it is crucial for young people to see, experience, and practice communication skills in order to navigate their interactions with peers, family, and community through adolescence into adulthood. We teach communication skills and healthy relationships through a unique arts-based interactive curriculum that is derived from the Ripple Process.
Our curriculum is rooted in the five pillars of communication that we have devised:
1. Intentional Listening
2. Authentic Storytelling
3. Start with I
4. Speak Your Truth
5. Recognize Perspective
The Listen Act Change curriculum consists of 10-15 sessions, which can be modulated and tailored to the participants at the diverse sites and populations we serve.
The program is based on the social learning theory of scaffolding, in which participants are given sheltered or structured opportunities to practice new skills until they reach a level of mastery that permits them to behave independently. The program has been carefully designed to complement many of California’s educational standards and priorities such as literacy, pupil engagement, and participation.
We have successfully implemented the program in probation lock-up facilities, continuation schools, charter schools, placement homes, after school programs like the Boys and Girls Club, Volunteers of America, Homeboy Industries, and more.
