TEEN FELLOWSHIP
FOUNDED BY RABBI STEVEN CARR REUBEN, HOME SHALOM PROMOTES HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS AND FACILITATES THE CREATION OF JUDGEMENT FREE, SAFE SPACES IN THE JEWISH COMMUNITY.
Our Teen Fellowship programming creates deep connections between teens, as they grapple with key issues: healthy relationships, communication, consent, self-worth, and the challenges of communication over technology. Students work together to explore and problem solve through interactive exercises, improvisation, and art-making.
The Fellowship consists of 6-7 monthly meetings, grounded in Jewish text and values. Through this program, students come to understand that positive healthy communication is the key to healthy relationships which can lead them toward success. We lead teens through deep dives into consent, communication over technology, and self-worth.
Our arts based curriculum allows students to engage, self-express, and foster and trust their individual voices. We focus on healthy communication skills as an avenue toward developing taking responsibility for your actions (fact, feeling, fair request), understanding respect for and attention to other perspectives, self-advocacy through setting boundaries, understanding consent, and knowing your self-worth, and - especially, how to listen as a primary communication tool.
The program is interactive and hands-on. We don't talk to the kids, we talk with them. We use the arts primarily theater to role play, act out and explore life scenarios and create a space to discuss, ponder and wonder what and how to navigate relationships and communicate one's needs. Our staff is a diverse multi racial team that represents the many different layers and possibilities of relationships in our community.
